Can we get by without Norway?

In the European Baptist community, the people of our school have had Norwegian friends for a long time. But it was only a few years ago that we found out that the Norwegian School of Theology and Leadership (HLT) in Oslo had Pentecostal and Baptist people and faculty together. This made that school a particularly exciting partner for us, as we also have a large number of Pentecostal people in our school. We have a lot to give to each other - Estonians and Norwegians, Baptists and Pentecostals.

Some time ago we applied for a grant from the EEA/Norway Cooperation Programme in Higher Education project and we received funds to explore that new possible partnership with HLT. The project included a visit by their lecturer to teach us in Pentecostal Theology, and one of our lecturer to teach in Norway (plus one online) on leadership, mission, and baptist identity. Also three of our staff visited Norway to summarize the project and to explore possible further partnerships.

The three of us from Estonia - Einike, Helina and Matthew, attended a two-day conference with sermons and worship, as well as scholarly explorations of spiritual practices and gifts especially emphasized in the Pentecostal church: prophecy, visions and interpretation, the presence of the Holy Spirit in worship, and the impact of emotions in Christian leadership. The final panel discussion was on the gift of discernment - how to discern the true work of God's Spirit from human influences. We have much to learn from this kind of spiritual and scientific interaction in a theological school!

During the visit, we renewed many friendships and started several new ones. We discussed the possibilities of exchanges of lecturers and students and joint research projects. Sadly this current project is coming to an end, but the collaboration was so meaningful that we will keep trying to apply for other grants in ordefr to find ways to continue working together. We have a lot to learn from each other.
